I have been perfecting the 'durability' of my beaded rings, ever since I began creating them! It seems they have developed a bad name, suggesting they 'wilt' or are not 'long lasting'. This picture shows how my rings are created to handle more weight and traffic, then usual seed beaded rings. Above, I set 15 US Nickles on top of the band. These will not break, wilt or be tossed into a drawer for 'non use' but considered one of your favorite, long wearing pieces of jewelry, or 'Wearable Art', for years to come!

Channels of Cubes, woven on a Loom!
1.8 mm Khaki Glass cube beads, woven on the loom, C-Lon Tex 400 warp cords, 8 mm AB Purple glass beads and silver metallic Peanuts, created this striking cuff. The clasp is oxidized brass and paired with Antique Brass findings and accents.

"Peeking Duck", Montage of an Asian Themed Cuffs
I want to share a montage of three cuffs, all completed from the same pattern I graphed, but in different ways. This offers a concept that patterns are wonderful to follow, but they can also be changed to create something very different, putting your own mark on the finished looming.
The lower cuff has a graphed design of a Duck, called "Peeking Duck". The symbol is the Chinese symbol for Properity. This same cuff had a second layer, loomed directly on top of the base looming. The dragon picture was added to carryout the Asian Theme.

"SESEN"

Split Loomed Necklace. Three dimensional hand weaving, applied to the loomed base. After completing the base looming, each petal was hand woven then applied keeping the perspective of the original designed Lotus Flower.
|
|

Working my way down this piece, I will detail each section.
The first is depicting the upper straps which were loomed to meet at one long row of loomed beads. This is what gives this type of loomed necklace it's name, "SLN" or "Split Loomed Necklace".
You can also see the 'cutwork' I included, using my ©Weighted Warp Method. That allowed me to move the warps, left or right, while looming.
|
Each petal was attached, starting from the further back perspective and built up to the forefront petal. You can also notice the bend and shape each petal holds. This is a method I have found to work well with any type of bead stitch, on or off loom. It can be completed to add dimension, as I did here, or even strengthen the band of a ring.
Just remember, consider multiple types of thread when creating any piece. Don't feel only one thread is the best. All have their merit and can help create a difference.
I have created layers of fringe. The first you see below, is a 'graphed' design I created based in a 'filet crochet' pattern. Following the line of the pattern, much like following a loom pattern graph, I threaded the beads in order. To help the fringes keep their design, I secured each fringe to the other. I explain this further in my Blog.
|
|
Above and below you can see another dimension of this fringe, a herringbone stitched stem. Woven with 11/0 Japanese seed beads in lighter shades of green. The end is topped off using a sterling silver cone and glass opal cut stone. Working out how to add this to the open end of my stem, was something I took my time to consider, but all worked out in the end.
The twisted fringe was my first try also, but wanted to add a different dimension then another flat fringe. Each of these are also weighted with sterling silver caps and glass opal daggers.
|
Now, through all of what I added and created, I'd like to share the back of this complete piece! My warp management techniques are applied which create a clean, neat and weighted looming. I also graphed my initials as a creative way to include my personal marking.

"Forget Me Not!"
This set was designed and created for a commission
requesting "Just Flowers!" Feeling I had an 'opened ended design request', I still wanted to make this a memorable set of 'wearable art'. Thus, I decided on the small blue flowers, Forget Me Nots! This design lends itself to include the ring. When worn with the cuff, this set creates the trellising growing pattern of a Forget-Me-Not flowers. The earrings include a sterling wire wrapped glass leaf, in the same green hues used in the seed bead loomed cuff.
Rivoli Shield Ring
I can't say what I enjoy most....creating these rings or wearing them! I wear rings often, but to have such gorgeous shimmer, as the Rivoli offers, on my finger, is awesome! I have perfected a way to create a ring that wears-well. It is sturdy, holds it's shape forever and gets more comfortable with wear, like a great pair of leather shoes!
As with most of the rings I create, this is an 18mm Rivoli, bezeled and attached to a woven band. The band are 'Satin Delicas', a gorgeous line of beads that have a vintage look.

"Look What Landed On My Finger!"
I took a break from looming, just to create some RING designs. Seed beaded rings can be very 'artsy' to wear! I love wearing them, but also love designing them for the 'not so shy' to wear! This Monarch Butterfly Ring would be wonderful on the finger of a Singer, holding a Microphone!
|
Looming is my preferred method of beading, but knowing and utilizing other beading techniques, with my looming, allows me unlimited ways to accomplish what I am dreaming to create! There are many shapes and fundamentals only acquired with 'looming' beads, visa-versa. Including or considering other beading techniques, i.e. hand woven techniques, when planning new 'wearable art', allows more of a means to 'create what I am dreaming'!
I share my looming thoughts frequently on my Blog,
"A Bead Looming Intervention"
The right 'Intervention' can help, so commenting, on my blog posts, will help us all learn more about bead looming!

"A 'Matching Set' can consist of any two items!"
Above is a matching set which includes a 'Finger Ring' and a 'Cell Phone Bag'! Each utilize the same 11/0 Delica Bead Colors and include accent beads of Glass Crystal AB finishes. The center, of this Finger Ring, is a 16mm Crystal AB Rivoli and matches the Glass Crystal AB Drops, ending each fringe of the Cell Phone Bag.

"A Large Presence of a Purple Rivoli!"
Dichroic Purple Seed Beads, 11/0, with Silver Delicas 11/0 and Toho Permanent Metallic Silver 11/0 Seed Beads, create this seed beaded ring. Wrapped around a large purple rivoli, and stitched taught to hold it's shape, no unlike any other ring in metal! I love to work on making my art durable and wearable, such as this ring keeping it's shape!
The Fire of a Rivoli with Dichroic Seeds!
Dichroic Seed Beads, size 11/0, have such a glow about them! I couldn't wait to match them up with a huge Rivoli. If you notice the pattern in the ring, the metallic gold is hard to determine, woven with the Dicros, but in person, these ring looks like it is burning on your finger! I try to include Dicros with many of my creations.
 |
The Fire Down Below!
This dome style ring is created using various sizes of Toho Permanent Metallic Gold Beads. The dome is woven around a clear glass stone. Dichroic blue seed beads make up the band with 'red Dicro' woven as the 'pad' to hold the stone, bezeled with gold beads. This picture may be difficult to see the inside of the stone, but while wearing this ring, the red Dicros glow like a 'fire is inside'. Just another way to utilize the wonderful glowing trait of Dichroic Seed Beads!

Volcano Rivoli wrapped in Burgundy Delicas!
The Volcano Rivoli offers a gorgeous color wheel! It can be just about any ray of color, depending on the light. Set inside of a shield ring woven with Burgundy Delicas, size 11/0, then detailed with Silver and Gold Permanent Metallic Toho Seed beads.
 |
Golden Shaddow Rivoli with Delicas AB finish beads!
I played with the different type of finishes, Delica offers, in this ring. The Rivoli is an 18mm Golden Shaddow, but the cigar style band is woven using Matte Off White, Cranberry AB and finished using Toho Gold Permanent Metallic Seed Beads.
 |
|
|
"Golden Shaddow Rivoli Shield Ring"
Cigar Band styling, the Delica colors selected were to highlight the 16mm 'Golden Shaddow' Rivoli. Browns and Fushia with a light copper Permanent Mettalic Finish beaded outline. These rings hug the finger so well, that it is so comfortable to wear. Each are size specific, considering the finger size, knuckle size and bending width.
 |
"A Sheild Ring"
Almost as substantial as a 'finger ring', this 'sheild ring' is woven using 11/0 Delicas in shades that are found deep inside this 16mm Moonlight Rivoli. It can be worn in either direction. Worn one way, it completely covers the entire lower joint. Turned, it hangs over the upper hand.
I used 11/0 Permanent Silver Glass Beads to ouline the ring. My thoughts were to mimick a sterling silver ring look.

"Finger Rings"
I once owned a 'finger armor' ring, a Gothic design, created of metal and hinged to accomadate each knuckle. This look gives such a pressence and I loved it! Enjoying beads, as I do, I decided to make a pattern, of one, for me, to recreate the same design, but wearable. This idea is unique by way of recreating a 'Finger Armor' or 'Finger Ring' with 'seed beads'. Because of this, I have taken steps to secure this with a copyright, of "...covering the entire digit, to include and not exclude a hingement, with seed beads, sizes defined as 11/0 and 15/0, in [known] seed beading stitch techniques..."

'Do The Right Thing' by Marlene Blessing
Working a pattern, to actually recreate such a design, was a feat at first, but with some further considerations, I found the best way to create the entire ring out of seed beads, including a durable, fully bendable and comfortable 'hinge assembly'!

The montage below depicts a 'Finger Ring' patterned with 'diamond cut outs', on the lower band, filled with 2mm Swarovski Crystals. The entire ring is woven using 11/0 Delica Glass Beads and trimmed with Toho 11/0 Permanent Mettalic Gold Glass Beads.
|
Each view, of this 'Finger Ring', above, shows how comfortable it is to wear! I also included a 3D flower, with a Swarovski Crystal center. I created the pattern, for these petals, which can be used to create other beaded pieces of jewelry, as seen in my 'Coffee Shop'.
"A flower adorned 'Finger Ring'"
Other then this design being surrounded around using a 'Flower', it was also designed to just use 'Purple & Green' Delicas. I selected hues of each, in multiple finishes, so I could create depth and dimension. This picture does not show the 'movement' of this ring, but the 'hinge' I created gives it a comfortable feel and wearability!

"In Shades of London Blue"
|
My next 'finger ring' was highlighted using a 16mm, Brandy Color Rivoli. 11/0 Delicas in colors of Zircon, Aqua, Bronze and Matt Lined Golds. Notice the added trimming, on top of the lowest band and around the center of the top banding, using 15/0 Aqua Japanese Glass Beads. Trimming was completed using 11/0 ToHo Permanent Silver Mettalic Seed Beads.

"Lotus Finger Ring"
The colors the Customer requested made a wonderful, soothing finger ring. The inset on the bottom right, of the picture above, shows the samples supplied to help decide the color scheme/theme, for this particular 'Finger Ring'. However, I still try to include matte finishes, opague finishes (gloss), transluscent and AB finishes. If you look closely, you can see the different finishes in the ring. The Lotus Flower was woven using pearl lined beads, but trimmed with the 'Satin' Line, Miyuki sells. The Satin Line are a rough cut glass with an antique feel.
This ring would also be perfect for that 'Special Wedding Ensemble'. I think I will create some in white and ivory, too!
 |
I am so happy that 'Finger Rings' are as popular as they are! Every day I receive emails about a new commission, for one. Please bare with me, I will respond and "Yes" I do sell them! After making so many, I am very sure that my 'patented beaded hinge' will outlast the wear and tear of each 'Finger Ring'!

Below are selections of pieces, which I include 'custom lampwork glass art'! |

"Teal & Gold Glass Seed Beads with Crystal Swarovski AB, Beaded Beads, 3-D Beaded Bead in Center above Lampwork Teal Rose Drop finished with Teal Lampwork Pillows, in neckband. Necklace and Wrist Corsage"
"Monarch Butterfly and Cobalt Lampwork Necklace and Wrist Corsage"

|
"Tulip Necklace"
Tulips can be a very simple flower.
Therefore, I wanted to make the pattern delicate.
The multiple strands, pictured, are small woven beads in a flower pattern. |

|
"Pink Dogwood"
This necklace is titled, "Pink Dogwood Necklace".
The necklace base is loomed with 11/0 Delicas, as well as the leaves. The flower petals are also loomed, with Antique Glass 11/0 beads, in a matte, muted pink. The abundant fringe was strung using Swarovski Crystals and glass seed beads, on Fireline, to handle the weight if multiple strands. The gold Japanese beaded bead, was added as the flower's center, hand woven using metallic 'petit' glass beads, 15/0. Bronze glass daggers circle the center 'beaded bead'.
